Safe Families Teen PLUS
Providing Lasting Unconditional Support
Safe Families PLUS (SF PLUS) is a host family model to expand the safety net for youth and young adults who are at risk of homelessness as they transition into successful independence. SF PLUS facilitates relationships that assist with housing, academic engagement, career development, financial literacy, independent living skills, and positive interpersonal relationships. The average length of stay with a Host Family is 6 months.
SF PLUS Youth and Young Adults:
- Youth or young adults between the ages of 16-21 years old.
- Must be attending school or working full-time.
- Must be willing to participate in mentorship and the development of goals for independence.
- Participants choose to be part of the family environment and willingly follow household rules.
- Parent/Guardian consent is required for those under 18
SF PLUS Host Families
Host families are community members who have expressed an interest in connecting with a youth or young adult who needs support as they transition into independence. Host families are screened, approved, and trained by the Safe Families for Children staff. Their primary goal is to offer housing and relational connectedness to the youth they are hosting in their home. Many Host Families come from local faith communities and are motivated by their faith to support youth intentionally.
